ABOUT Michael Brocken

Dr. Michael Brocken holds one of the world's very first doctorates in Popular Music Studies (Insitute of Popular Music, University of Liverpool). He is Sr. Lecturer in Popular Music Studies at Liverpool Hope University where he teaches at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels and also supervises post-graduate student research.

He developed the world's first Masters level taught-programme concerning the Beatles impact on music and society and is director and lecturer for this groundbreaking course, now in its fourth year.

An accomplished acoustic guitarist, Mike also has had a career as a broadcaster, having presented 'Brock n Roll' his own series of popular music shows on BBC Radio Merseyside between 1999-2007. Liverpool born and bred, Mike is sole proprietor of Mayfield – one of Liverpool's oldest independent record labels.

He has published on a variety of popular music areas and contributes for the New Oxford Dictionary of National Biographies, the Encyclopaedia of Popular Music of the World and other compilations. Mike lives in Chester with his wife, Chris, and is, by coincidence, a Chicago Cubs fan.
